JO THORNE
Jo Thorne is a multi-disciplinary fine artist whose practice investigates the liminal spaces where material ritual, myth, and human transformation intersect. Having established a robust foundation in contemporary expressionist oil painting, her work naturally encompasses both deeply textured, semi-abstract oils and ambitious, hybrid three-dimensional installations.
Through the symbolic hand-formulation of raw pigments, wax, textiles, and architectural structures, Thorne coaxes complex emotional landscapes into physical space. Whether on canvas or through conceptual sculpture, her work explores themes of reclamation, autonomy, and the visceral alchemy of the in-between.
She lives and works in Somerset, UK, where she also serves as the Studio and Roper Gallery Manager at Bath Artists’ Studios, deeply embedding her practice within the regional contemporary arts community. Her work is held in private collections internationally and across the UK; she was previously represented by The Brownston Gallery and continues to be represented by the A2 Gallery and Black Swan Arts.
